We would like to share an announcement from our friends in Canada for their exciting new program:
Quantum Computing CREATE Program
In the next two decades, it is expected that quantum computing (QC) will allow us to solve some of the world's most pressing computational and societal problems that are unsolvable by classical computers. As the quantum computing industry grows, so does the demand for highly qualified personnel in the field. In an effort to meet this demand and sustain a strong quantum ecosystem in Canada and BC, researchers at UBC, UVic and SFU initiated an industrial stream NSERC Quantum Computing CREATE program designed to provide specialized training in quantum computing. The program commenced in June 2020 and accepted its first cohort of students in September 2020.
The program is designed to complement and strengthen existing graduate programs in physics, electrical and computer engineering, chemistry, and computer science. Their objective is to offer a unique training paradigm that spans the entire field of quantum computing from building quantum computers ("hardware") to creating new applications ("software"). The uniqueness of the proposed program lies in the scope and practical aspects of the training. Driven by rapidly increasing local and national industry demands for trainees, the program includes hands-on workshops embedded within graduate courses, with workshops co-taught by industry professionals. Their program will be the first in the world to produce graduates capable of both building elements of quantum computing hardware and programming and developing quantum computing algorithms, systems and applications.
